If you arrived at Hetton Hall, the Mother House of the Northumbria Community, the first thing we'd probably do is put the kettle on and have a blether... so what's the online equivalent of that? Just come on in and make yourself at home, and you'll find the answers to some of your questions about the Northumbria Community... eventually... probably...

WHAT'S NEW

Changes to the Rhythm of the Day of the Mother House

Following a period of consideration it seems the right time to make some changes at our Mother House. These changes affect the pattern of the monastic day. If you are planning a retreat please check the 'vital information' page for the update.

See details of the Crucible Course: Creating Church on the Margins.

Here's news of an opportunity to hear Brian McLaren, speaker, pastor and author in Edinburgh. Brian is in Scotland by invitation of the Evangelical Alliance and Scottish Network Churches, and will be in Edinburgh on Saturday 6th, developing themes engaged in his writing of such notable works as ‘A Generous Orthodoxy’ and ‘A New Kind of Christian’. It's a public meeting with Brian at 8pm on Saturday evening December 6th, at Morningside Baptist Church’s Braid Centre. Ticket information is here or on 0141 3328700

Details of the new 2008/2009 Programme are available in the What's On at Nether Springs pages

Want to see some of our photos?

We've been experimenting with quick and easy ways to post photos to the web, without having to get into lots of batch processing and preparation, and we've set up a Flickr account. We might not stick with it, but whilst its there, we thought you might like to see some of the ones we've posted. The most recent ones are from our Community Gathering in Leeds on Saturday 12th...you can take a look at the collections here - but please be aware that you are leaving our site (the Flickr page will open up in a new window) and that I'm not sure how 'secure' it is from people who might want to call themselves our friends. You know what I'm saying...

'Sing to the Well' is now available
Our good friends and Community Companions Martin and Bekah Neil have been intimately involved in a project to record the Wagogo people in Africa, in order to provide wells in their villages. Trust me, you need to buy this CD and DVD set. It may well change your life, and it will certainly change theirs... You can order it from here, and if you want more information it's here

First and foremost, this site is a tool to help us, as Companions and Friends in the Northumbria Community, to build community. We are a dispersed group, and the website can really help us to communicate, stay in touch, share news, ideas, prayer requests... possibilities limited only by our vision and imagination. So let us know any ideas you have for improving and developing the site. And please let us have any stuff you want to post here. Over to you...

If you'd like to receive an email to tell you when this site changes, then tell us here. We should even be able to tell you what's changed!

If you're a visitor, you might be wondering 'just what IS the Northumbria Community?'. Well, it's not easy to summarise in a few sentences... but if you click the 'Who are we' link, we'll have a go! The chapel at Hetton Hall, the Nether Springs

The Nether Springs is the Mother House of the Northumbria Community. Read about what that means here.

We are seeking to explore a new form of monasticism, and you can read about that here.

The Daily Office is a pattern of prayer which can help to bring rhythm... One of the things which binds us together as a Community is our Daily Office. It's a pattern of daily prayer which helps us to bring a rhythm to our day, wherever we are and whatever we're doing. Explore it here.

The Community's trading company is called Cloisters, and it's one of the ways we put 'bread on our table'. Cloisters is a vehicle for the creativity of Community people to find an outlet, and to help others understand and explore some of the things which create the distinctives of the Northumbria Community. Click here to have a look...

Nether Springs, the Mother House of the Northumbria Community, is in Northumberland in the far north of England. We run retreats, and also offer private space for reflection. Have a look to see what's on at Nether Springs. An unusual view of the peel tower at Nether Springs!
You might want to jump to the Archive page, where there's all sorts of stuff you can download, or listen to.
If all else fails, and you really can't find what you're looking for, then send us an email, and Ellen will get on to it.
